Mac OS 10.3 Dialup Connection Setup


Requirements

You will need the following information.

  • Your login ID (user name) ex: (joeuser@nethere.com)
  • Your password
  • Your dialup access phone number. (You can find a local number here)



From the Apple menu select Location and from the flyout menu select Network Preferences.

You should see a window that looks similar to the one below.
(Note that for our purposes here some of the window has been cropped.)

From the Location dropdown select New Location.

Give your location a name. We will call ours NetHere.
After naming your location click OK.


From the Show dropdown select Internal Modem
(or the modem that is appropriate for your computer)

Be sure that the PPP button is selected (it should be by default) then proceed
to enter your account information. If you are unsure of any of the information please
call our Customer Care deptartment at 619-224-7610 or 888-NetHere for assistance.
(*Note that by default the Save Password box is checked. If you don't want to have to
enter your password each time you connect, leave it checked.)

Network Properties

Next click the PPP Options button at the bottom of the window.

Many of these settings are optional. However we reccomend that you set yours to match
the example below. When you have finished choosing your settings click OK.

Next we want to check out the modem settings. Click the Modem button.
Be sure that the correct modem name is selected from the Modem dropdown.
You should make your settings match the exaplmple below. There is however one
optional setting. The one labeled Notify me of incoming calls...
Don't forget to check show modem status in menu bar.

Click the Apply Now button at the bottom of the window and then close
Network preferences window.

At the top of your screen you should see a little black telephone icon.
This is the Modem Status icon.

When you want to connect to the Internet you can click the phone icon and select
Connect. (* Keep in mind that because we enabled the option "Connect when needed" you may not need to use this method to connect. Normally as soon as you open a browser or e-mail application your dialup connection will start automatically.)



When connected you should see a clock showing the amount of time you have been connected.

Duration

Congratulations! You have successfully setup your NetHere dialup connection.
